Jim Hatten, M.Ed. taught English/Language Arts and Journalism (Television and Print) at four high schools before pursing full-time a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. This website was created in 2001, the fall of his fourth year of teaching at his first school in St. Francis (Minn.). In part due to this website, Hatten was nominated for Education Minnesota's State Teacher of the Year. Hatten has led professional development in technology use in the classroom for the Minnesota Department of Education and for civic and public service use for the City of Duluth, Minn.

In addition to having been a teacher, Hatten is a former professional newspaper reporter and editor as well. He worked for the St. Cloud Times (Minn.) newspaper and the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press for a total of eight years. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree with double-majors in English and Mass Communications from St. Cloud State University. Hatten was conferred a Masters in Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction (Learning Technologies) in 2009.

He currently teaches at the University of Minnesota, runs a technology and website design and development company called Hatten Creative Designs, and lives in Minnetonka, Minnesota with his wife and three daughters.

Jason Kendall is the brother of St. Francis High School teacher Travis Kendall, who continues to teach at St. Francis H.S. J.D. Draves remains in his position in Ohio. As of 2010, the SFHS students who wrote narratives today range in age between 25 and 27 years old.
